Mrs. Thompson buried
Services for Mrs. Sylvia Thompson were conducted by the Rev. James Ross Wednesday afternoon, March 29, at the Steffy Funeral Home. Mrs. Jack Ramsey was the organist at the rites.
Casket bearers were Gary Thompson, Allen Thompson, Delmar Thompson, William Slagle, John Thompson and Raymond Thompson. Burial was in Jackson Township Cemetery.
Mrs. Thompson, 88, died Monday, March 27, at University Hospitals, Iowa City, from complications resulting from severe burns she suffered while preparing a meal at her home on February 10.
The daughter of John and Selah Reeves Tish, she was born in Poweshiek County on Nov. 16, 1892. She attended rural school. On Feb. 11, 1914, she was married to Howard Thompson. They farmed in this area until 1947 when they moved to Montezuma.She is survived by her family – Harold and Eleanor Thompson, Lester and Opal Thompson, all of Montezuma, Fern and Glenn Slagle of Brooklyn and Ray and Beulah Thompson of New Sharon; 17 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Cecil Snider, Eva Snook and Gladys Burgraaf: and four brothers Clayton Tish, Floyd Tish, Alfred Tish and Kenneth Tish.
Her husband died mar 22, 1973. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a grandson and three brothers.
