DONALD C. HASSELBRINK

Donald C. Hasselbrink, 69, of Newton, a former Poweshiek County farmer, died of cancer Thursday, Feb. 2, at his home.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton, with burial in Hazelwood Cemetery, Grinnell.

The son of William and Elsie Henning Hasselbrink, he was born Dec. 13, 1919, near Newton. He graduated from Newton High School in 1939 and had been a resident of Newton since 1979.

He was married to Edith Kaisand March 27, 1943, at Gallatin, Mo. He farmed in Poweshiek County for 37 years. He began work as sexton of Newton Union Cemetery in 1979, retiring in 1985.

Mr. Hasselbrink was a member of the First Baptist Church in Newton, the Jasper County Senior Citizens and the Bethel Grange.

He is surviverd by his wife, Edith; two daughters, Carolyn Hasselbrink of Des Moines and Margaret Irvin of Glendale, Ariz.; three brothers, Edward of Woodridge N.J., and Richard and Wayne, both of Grinnell; and two sisters, Virginia Pratt of Clarion and Doris Bryan of Lynnville. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, June Hasselbrink.

Memorials in his name may be made to Hospice of Jasper County, the First Baptist Church of Newton or the American Cancer Society.
