TODD W. HESS

Todd W. Hess, 27, of Montezuma died early Sunday, Feb. 11, of injuries he sustained in a single-car accident northeast of Montezuma.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning at the Grinnell Christian Church with the Rev. John Epperson officiating. Organist was Marlene Toney, and pallbearers were Mark Adkins, Loren Burnell, Mike Funk, Addison Jensen, Mitch Latham and Kerry Sterk.

Burial was in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The son of Jerry and Patricia Olson Hess, he was born May 7, 1962, in Grinnell. He attended school in Newton, then returned to Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School in 1981. He lived in Phoenix, Ariz., then returned to Grinnell in 1986. For the past two years he had worked at Montezuma Manufacturing Co. and Kinze Manufacturing Co. of Williamsburg.

Surviving are his father, Jerry Hess of Medical Lake, Wash.; his mother and stepfather, Patricia and Jack Smothers of Grinnell; three brothers, Troy Hess of Waukee and Tony Hess and Patrick Smothers, both of Grinnell; his maternal grandparents, Gerald and Ella Mae Olson of West Liberty; and his paternal step-grandparents, Louis and Esther Smothers of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Deborah Hess, and his paternal grandparents, Chester and Faith Hess.
