MRS. ELMER PULS

Sylvia M. Puls, 71, wife of Elmer Puls of Grinnell, died Monday at a Grinnell hospital following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from the Trinity Lutheran church with the Rev. John Pannkuk officiating. A prayer service will be conducted for relatives at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home.

Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran cemetery.

The daughter of Henry and Nettie Rehberg Baustian, she was born Nov. 8, 1894 in Sheridan township. She attended the rural Sheridan No. 9 School, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran church.

On Oct. 17, 1911, she was married to Elmer Puls at the home of his parents north of Malcom. Following their marriage they farmed in the Malcom and Chester communities. Since 1955 they made their home in Grinnell and for nine years she was employed at the Happy Hour Rest Home.

Survivors include her husband, Elmer; her children, Mrs. Theresa Schultz, Mrs. Kevin (Norma) Griffin, Shirley Puls, Wayne Puls, Robert Puls, and Mrs. Richard (Ruth) Hasselbrink, all of the Grinnell community; 14 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; two half-sisters, Mrs. Chester Hess of Malcom and Mrs. Robert Miller of Marshalltown; her stepmother, Mrs. Avis Baustian of Malcom; and a sister, Mrs. Edna Plum of Toledo.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and a sister, Mrs. Nora Lidtka.
