KEVIN GRIFFIN

Kevin Griffin, 83, of Grinnell who had resided in Hawkins, Texas, for the past six months, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler, Texas.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held Saturday, Oct. 16, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell with the Rev. William Reynolds, pastor of the church officiating. Music will be by Marilyn Kriegel, organist, and St. Mary's Choir. Friends may call at Smith Funeral Home from 12 noon until 7 p.m. on Friday. Family members will greet friends at the church from 9:45 a.m. Saturday until the service. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, Texas 75701.

He was born March 31, 1921, in Varina. He served in World War II during which he received numerous citations including the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was married on Dec. 16, 1946, to Norma Puls, to whom he was married for 56 years. He worked in Lake City and Nevada, Iowa, prior to moving to Grinnell in 1957. He worked for General Telephone and Electronics (GTE) for 37 years in a variety of capacities before retiring in 1983 as director of regulatory relations.

During his 45 years in Grinnell he served for 18 years on the Grinnell City Council and was a member of the boards of directors of the Grinnell Kiwanis Club, the United Fund, Grinnell Chamber of Commerce and Grinnell Country Club.

He is survived by one son, Dave Griffin of Big Sandy, Texas; one daughter Gloria Fultz of Schaumburg, Ill., and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Norma, two brothers and one sister.
