FUNERAL SATURDAY FOR MRS. PROVIN

Funeral services for Mrs. George Provin, 87, were held last Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Bramer's funeral home in charge of the Rev. M.C. Shupe, pastor of Grace Methodist church. Interment was at Guernsey cemetery.

Katie Emmaline Smith, oldest daughter of Peter and Harriett Billingham Smith, was born in Cerro Gordo county Aug. 2, 1871, and died at Montezuma Oct. 29, 1958. After attending Grinnell college and Highland Park college in Des Moines she taught rural schools in Poweshiek county.

She was married to George W. Provin on Feb. 17, 1897, and the couple started farming near Malcom. In 1905 they moved to a farm near Guernsey where they lived 47 years. Mr. and Mrs. Provin moved to Grinnell in 1950. The couple had been married 55 years when Mr. Provin died March 22, 1952.

Six sons and four daughters were born to the couple: Smith, George, Carmi, Carl, Charles, Keith, Elsie Shook, Bessie Brush, Hazel Provin and Katie Ranfeld.

Survivors include four sons; three daughters; one brother, Alva Smith; three sisters, Lois Morrison, Inez Prietz and Della Glenn; 20 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Charles and Carmi; one daughter Hazel; three brothers, Joseph, Emery and Willard and one sister, Mary Elizabeth.
