OBITUARY

GEORGE WASHINGTON PROVIN

George Washington Provin, fourth child of George and Fannie Cantrell Provin was born Feb. 3, 1862 in DeWitt county Ill., and passed away quietly in his sleep at four o'clock March 22, 1952, at his home in Grinnell at the age of 90 years, 1 month and 19 days.

He was united in marriage with Katie Smith Feb. 17, 1897. They observed their 55th wedding anniversary February of this year.

To this union six sons were born, Smith, George, Carmi, Carl, Charles and Keith and four daughters, Elsie Shook, Bessie Brush, Hazel and Katie Ranfeld. He is survived by his wife and one brother, Grant Provin, five sons and three daughters, 20 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, four sisters, three brothers and his son Charles and daughter, Hazel and three grandchildren.

He was a pioneer farmer in Lincoln township near Guernsey for 47 years. With his wife he moved in October of 1950, to Grinnell where he resided at the time of his death. He served on the board of education at Guernsey Consolidated school when the school house was built in 1917. He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Services were held from the Bramer Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon, March 25. Rev. Martin O. McKenzie of the Methodist church was in charge of the service. Mrs. Ella McKenzie was at the organ. Casket bearers were Cecil Brannian, Merlin Stoker, Kenneth Meldrem, John Eicher, Robert Maxwell and Eugene Mullen.
