JAMES R. FARRINGTON

James R. Farrington, 76, of rural Montezuma died Aug. 7, 2000 at his home.

A funeral for Mr. Farrington was Aug. 11 at Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma with officiants, David Pearce and Cletus Lee Miller.

Musical selections were, "Grandpa Tell Me 'Bout the Good Old Days" by the Judds, "Mansion Over the Hilltop" and "The Last Mile of the Way" performed by Tiffany and Tyne Steele and "Silver-Haired Daddy of Mine" performed by Becky Fatzinger.

Scott Laird, Mike Benelli, Maynard Johnson, Jim Stursma, Casey Schares and Steve Deucore were casket bearers. Serving as honorary casket bearers were Alan Farrington, Scott Farrington, David Farrington, Jesse Hicks, Walter Hagist, Skip Fatzinger and James Richard Farrington, Jr.

Interment was near Searsboro in West Liberty Cemetery.

Mr. Farrington was born in Oskaloosa, the son of H.H. and Edna Maxwell Farrington. He grew up in the Des Moines area.

He and his wife, Betty Masters, had three children. The couple later divorced.

On July 31, 1959, Mr. Farrington married Norma Jean Tish in Oskaloosa. To this union were born six children.

He worked as a chief inspector at Clow Corporation in Oskaloosa for several years and also worked with heavy equipment.

Mr. and Mrs. Farrington were foster parents for several years.

He was a member of West Liberty Church of Christ.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Jack and Max Farrington; one sister, Mildred Burnham and two grandchildren, Tony Farrington and Shawna Hicks.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean; their children and spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

They are James Richard, Jr. and Connie Farrington, Michelle, Anthony and Kim of Phoenix; Joyce and Steve Picket, Jennifer and Stephanie of Dumas, Texas; Bonnie and Dale Ritz and Melissa of Ottumwa, Nancy and Walter Hagist and Jesse Hicks of Brighton; Dawn and Paul Hammock of Germany, Alan and Isabel Farrington, Jayson and Brittany of San Diego; Rebecca and Louis (Skip) Fatzinger, Christopher and Joshua of Montezuma; Pamela and Mike Benelli, Michael and Daniel of Phoenix; Scott and Kristy Farrington, Nathan and Erienne of Colorado Springs; David and Cheryl Farrington, Andrea and Cassandra of Montezuma.

Also surviving are two foster children, Mike and Mary Farrington and their family of Montezuma and Scott Laird of Fort Dodge; nine grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

A memorial is established in Mr. Farrington's name.
