SERVICES FOR RETIRED PRESBYTERIAN PASTOR

Funeral services for the Rev. E.W.F. Holler, 91, Brooklyn resident for 44 years and retired pastor of the Brooklyn Presbyterian church, were held Monday afternoon at two o'clock at First United Presbyterian church.

Officiating at the services was the Rev. John Koning of Davenport, former Brooklyn pastor, assisted by George W. Roquet, pastor. Organist was Mrs. Ed Bartachek.

Interment was at Ottumwa where graveside rites were accorded by the Masonic lodge of Ottumwa. Pallbearers were Hugh Montgomery, Warren Carpenter, Randolph Roudabush, Andrew Calderwood, Burdette Farley and Kendall Andrews.

Edward William Farris Holler was born Feb. 4, 1873, at Sparland, Ill. and died last Friday at St. Francis hospital in Grinnell where he had been a patient since March 29.

He was a graduate of Parsons college at Fairfield in 1897 and from the McCormick Theological Seminary of Chicago in 1900. Following his marriage to Maude Jackson of Fairfield May 23, 1900, he worked for two years in the home missionary field at Purcell, Okla. He was ordained in the ministry Sept. 12, 1900, at Kingfisher, Okla.

The Rev. Mr. Holler served four years at Litchfield, Ill., three years at Martinsburg, seven years at Ottumwa and three years at New London before coming to Brooklyn in 1920 to serve a 16-year pastorate. Following his retirement from the Brooklyn church, he served as pastor of the Malcom church for five years. In 1942 he was elected pastor emeritus of the Brooklyn church. The couple continued to live in Brooklyn following Rev. Holler's retirement.

For many years he had been active in the Masonic Order having served in several offices including Past Master of the Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters of Iowa, Pastor and High Chief of the Grand Order of Royal Arch Masons of Iowa and Past Grand Commander of the Knights Templar of Iowa.

Throughout the years as pastor here, he was active in the affairs of the town and was interested in the welfare of the community. An ardent sportsman, he made many fishing and hunting trips with Brooklyn friends. He had been a member of the Ottumwa Rifle Assn. of which he served as president and trained draftees in small arms firing during World War I. He had also been active in Red Cross work on local and state levels.

Survivors include his widow, who is now hospitalized in Oskaloosa, a sister and a niece, Mrs. Lena Long and Mrs. Florence Miller, both of Denver, Colo.
