MRS. J.C. MANLY DIES THIS MORNING

One of Grinnell's Noble Women Arrives At the End of Life's Pilgrimage

SHE WAS 89 YEARS OLD ON APRIL 26

Funeral Services Will Be Held From the Manly Home Thursday At 2:30 O'clock p.m.

Sad, even though expected, news came to Grinnell this morning with the announcement of the death of Mrs. J.C. Manly at 9:35 o'clock. Mrs. Manly had lived in Grinnell so long and had made herself so much a part of Grinnell, that it is hard to think of this community without her. As the wife of one of Poweshiek county's most able and progressive men, now dead many years, she made the Manly home a center of hospitality and neighborliness. Since Mr. Manly's death she has lived quietly in the old home with her son, John, and has made a real home for him just as she made a real home for a much larger family.

Mrs. Manly passed her eighty-ninth birthday on April 26. Fortunately, this was one of her good days, so that she was able to enjoy the occasion with her family about her.

She had been sick for eight weeks with heart trouble, and during that time her death was frequently expected, but she rallied as often, until the end came this morning.

Her sweet and helpful presence, her fine qualities as wife and mother, her genuine interest in people and the good things of life, have made her one of Grinnell's noble women. She will be missed not only by her family, but by all who in any way, during her more active life or in these last days of feebleness have come in touch with her.

She is survived by her two sons, John and Charles. Her husband, one son, Carter, and one daughter, Mrs. Mary Manly Blow, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held from the Manly home on High street Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Robert Inglis.
