PLAN SERVICES SATURDAY FOR JOHN C. MANLY

John Clinton Manly II, 76, Grinnell, died at a local hospital Wednesday afternoon following a lingering illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. C.E. Kingsley, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiating. Flower bearers will be Mrs. Raymond Norris and Mrs. Eldon Olds. Organ music will be furnished by Mrs. Kathleen Heffner.

Serving as pallbearers will be Sherley Eichhorn, A.B. Hamilton, Raymond Norris, Donald Souter, David Talbott and Fred Wolfe. Elks graveside services will be conducted by Grinnell lodge 1266, B.P.O. Elks.

Interment will be in Hazelwood cemetery.

He was the son of John Clinton and Mary Carter Manly and was born in Grinnell on Jan. 28th, 1885. He attended the "Old South" school and Grinnell high school. Mr. Manly had been retired of recent years but was in the men's clothing business and the former Swisher Clothing Co. for many years.

He was a charter member of the Grinnell Elks lodge and was instrumental in building the lodge building. Mr. Manly was also at one time president of the Grinnell Country Club. He took pleasure in maintaining the Manly family home and landscaping the yard and many in Grinnell enjoyed with him the maple trees west of his home.

Although he never married, Mr. Manly was well known by his own family and the children of the neighborhood as "Uncle John."

He is survived by his two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ethel Manly and Mrs. Charles M. Manly, both of Grinnell; four nephews and one niece, Mrs. Jack (Marybea) Letts of Durange, Colo., John C. Manly III of Boston, Mass., Charles M. Manly II of Grinnell, Robert C. Manly of Salt Lake City, Utah, and William F. Manly of Phoenix, Ariz. Also surviving are eight grand nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers and one sister, Carter and Charles Manly and Mrs. Keith (Mary) Blow.
