OBITUARY

JOHN AHRENS

John Ahrens was born April 26, 1852, in Germany. He spent his childhood days and his youth in Malcom township, where he was brought up in the Lutheran faith.

In 1877 he was married to Christina Kaisand, who died on March 6, 1914. This union was blessed with three sons and two daughters, Frank of Jackson, Minn., John and Henry of Grinnell, Mrs. Kate Young and Mrs. Helen Stevens of Grinnell.

Of late years the deceased resided in Rock Creek township, Jasper Co., Iowa, on a farm. He died November 21, his illness, due to heart leakage, ending in Bright's disease, having been in a critical condition for several months. However, he had planned to spend this winter in California in the hopes the change of climate would benefit his health.

Funeral services were conducted by the Reverend O.C. Bierman, Lutheran pastor. The Malcom Masonic order took part in the services at the home and at the grave at Hazelwood, where he was buried by the side of his faithful wife.
