OBITUARY.

Mrs. Catherine Hannon died in Malcom twp. Aug. 21, 1897, aged 71 years and 6 months.

Miss Catherine Cook was born in Youngstown, Ohio, Feb'y, 1826, was united in marriage to Robt. F. Hannon in 1846. From this union eight children were born, three sons and five daughters all of whom survive her. In 1858 with her husband and young family she came to Iowa and settled at Brooklyn, enduring much of early pioneer life. In 1864 she became a reident of Grinnell and in 1870 the family moved to a farm in Malcom twp. where she has since resided.

Catherine Cook Hannon was a devoted Christian mother, having united with the Disciple church in Youngstown, O., early in life and by constant and consistent devotion to her family and neighbors she impressed her marked character upon all. With her three score years and ten of duty well done, her sons and daughters, her relatives and friends say peace to her sacred ashes, kind rest to her weary soul. The funeral occurred Monday at 2 p.m., from her late residence in this city, conducted by Prof. L.F. Parker, a friends of the family in the early days of Grinnell. Mrs. John Grearson of Jacksonville, Ill., a sister of the deceased was present at the services. Interment was made in Hazelwood cemetery where she sleeps by the side of a husband who crossed to the other shore in Dec., 1891. Mrs. Hannon was the mother of Mrs. D.S. Beardsley and Miss Kate Hannon, of this city.
