MARIE SOPHIA BAZYN, 89

Marie Sophia Bazyn, 89, of Brooklyn, died Tuesday, December 13, 2005, at Brooklyn Community Estates, Brooklyn.

She was born January 31, 1916, to Leo and Jenny DeBates DeCoster in Victor. She attended St. Bridget Catholic School graduating in 1934.

Marie married Rene Bazyn on July 14, 1937, at St. Bridget Church, Victor. They lived north of Holiday Lake, Brooklyn for over sixty-years where they farmed and Marie did house-keeping.

They were the parents of ten children.

Marie was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn.

Surviving are her children, Jean Wheeler of Sigourney, Mary McDonald and husband Fred of Brooklyn, Dixie Willett and Carl Marsh of Robins, Leo Bazyn and wife Judy of Lewisville, Tenn., Betty Vance, Oak Harbor, Wash., John Bazyn and wife Colleen of Montezuma, David Bazyn of Cedar Rapids, Paul Bazyn and wife Kathy of Elkader, Jim Bazyn and Robin Houser of Montezuma; and Ann Morrow and KC Hilsabeck of Blairstown; a sister, Therase Ver Straten of Des Moines; fifty-three grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; and twelve great-great-grandchildren.

Her parents; her husband who died March 19, 1999; four brothers, Frank, Lewis, Charles and John DeCoster; two sisters, Ida and Irene DeCoster; and grandchild, Luanne McDonald, preceded her in death.

Marie had many friends and was loved, she will be missed.

Memorial services for Marie Bazyn were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, December 17, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn. Rev. Brian Shepley officiated and the musician was Marilyn Kriegel. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery at Victor.

A memorial fund has been established.

Nevenhoven Funeral Services, Brooklyn, was in charge of arrangements.
