WILLIAM DECAMP SUCCUMBS FRIDAY; SERVICES TODAY

William W. DeCamp, 85, died Friday afternoon at his home at 1032 East Street.

Funeral services were held this afternoon (Monday) from the James-Schalinske Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Shireman, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiating. Organ music was provided by Mrs. Kathleen Heffner.

Flag was presented by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and fraternal services conducted by the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Grinnell Lodge No. 358.

Pallbearers were Wells Weyrauch, Eugene Slaven, Albert Grimm, Hilliard Turner, L.H. Pickhardt, and Fred Taylor. Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery.

The son of Anna and Elmus DeCamp, he was born June 19th, 1877, in Scott county near Davenport. He moved with his parents to Poweshiek county when about one year old and received his education in the Grinnell schools. He was employed by the Spaulding Co. in the trim shop for 17 years.

On Feb. 27th, 1919, he was united in marriage with Anna C. Vogt and they lived on a farm north of Grinnell for about 10 years before moving to Oklahoma City where they lived until 1957, when they moved back to Grinnell.

A member of the Grinnell Fire Department, he received a 10-year certificate for his service. He was also a member of the Grinnell Odd Fellows Lodge and was presented a 55-year jewel on Feb. 22nd, 1961.

He enlisted in the Army during the Spanish-American War in 1898 and served with Co. K of the 50th Iowa Infantry at Jacksonville, Fla.

His wife preceded him in death on Dec. 16th, 1957. Also preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, and one sister.
