FORMER RESIDENT DIES IN WASHINGTON

Requiem Mass was said at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 29, at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Edmonds, Wash., for Fred M. Brown, 70, of 20127 24th Ave. N.W., Seattle, Wash., who died June 26 at an Edmonds, Wash., hospital.

Mr. Brown, a former Grinnell and Searsboro resident, had been ill for many months with Parkinson's disease.

Rosary for Mr. Brown was said June 28, also at the church. Interment was at Holyroad Cemetery under the direction of Beck's Funeral Home in Edmonds.

Casketbearers at the services were Walter Pool, James Kinkead, Eugene Harrison, Joe Barrett, Gilbert Unger and Dwight Clifford.

The son of Jennie Holmes and Frank Brown Sr., Mr. Brown was born in Grinnell Sept. 5, 1901. The family made their home in Grinnell for a time and later moved to a farm near Searsboro where they resided many years. Frank Brown Sr., Mr. Brown's father, was leader of the Searsboro band and the Brown children played various instruments in the band.

On July 13, 1929 in Grinnell, Mr. Brown married Anna Agnes Martin of Searsboro, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Martin.

Mr. Brown at one time was employed by the Grinnell Poultry and Egg Company. The couple had moved to Seattle 43 years ago.

Mr. Brown was a retired boilermaker and construction man. He had spent a year mining gold in the Yukon territory with a friend. He was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church, a member of the Richmond Beach Community Club and of the Retiree Club of the Boilermaker's Union No. 104 of Seattle.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Agnes at home; two sons--Robert J. and Gerald J., both of Seattle; two brothers Frank of Grinnell and Leslie of Fresno, Calif.; two sisters--Mrs. Fred (Lucille) Davis of Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Paul (Genevieve) Mahannah of Keokuk, Iowa, and six grandchildren.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brown Sr., and a sister, Grace Brown.
