OLLIE CANVIN RITES TODAY

Ollie C. Canvin, 87, of the Lakeside Mobile Home Court died late Friday afternoon at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. James P. Russell of the Grinnell United Methodist Church officiating. Organist will be Kathleen Heffner. Pallbearers will be Alfred Dille, Bruce Dille, Robert Dille, Thomas Dille, Michael Guerts and Wayne Sadler. Fraternal rites will be conducted by Evelyn Garwood, worthy matron, and members of Beulah Chapter No. 47 of the Order of Eastern Star. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery.

The daughter of William Orlin and Ellen Nora Whitmarsh Dille, she was born June 11, 1893, at Fredric. She was raised and educated in the coal-mining communities of Fredric, Hocking, Coalfield, Cedar and Albia. Following her education, she taught school in the Melcher community.

On June 17, 1917, she was married to Harry J. Canvin at Oskaloosa. The couple operated a dry-cleaning business in Iowa City until 1924, when they moved to Grinnell. She and her husband operated the Grinnell Cleaners on Main St. and later at 815 Fourth Ave. before illness forced her husband's retirement. Following her husband's death in 1954, Mrs. Canvin worked as a nurse's aide at Community Hospital, St. Francis Hospital and Grinnell General Hospital. She received the first award for "Employee of the Month" given in recognition of her duties.

She was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church and had received a 50-year jewel from Beulah Chaper No. 47 of the Grinnell Order of Eastern Star.

There are no immmediate survivors. She was preceded in death by her parents; her hsuband, Harry; and two brothers, Alfred E. Dille and W. Orlin Dille.
