Grinnell, Iowa newspaper obituary dated Friday, June 10, 1921

ADAM DUNLAP

Adam Dunlap, known to everyone in Grinnell, where for more than thirty-seven years he has made his home, was born at Williamsburg, Penn., November 13, 1841, and died on June 6, 1921, at the age of 79 years, 7 months and 22 days.

On Christmas day of 1862, he was married to Mary J. Sneath. To this union eight children were born, five of whom survive, three having preceded their father in death.

It was in 1871 that Mr. Dunlap came to Iowa, and for several years after his arrival in this state he made his home on a farm. For more than thirty-seven years, however, his home has been in Grinnell, and during a large part of that time he was engaged in the restaurant business at various locations in this city.

His wife died in 1891 and in 1896 he was united in marriage with Mrs. Margaret Johnson, who survives him. To this union, one son, Roy Dunlap, was born. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and six children, Sam Dunlap, Ft. Collins, Colo.; Mrs. Frank Hough, Salt Lake City, Utah; Mrs. George Christensen, Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Blanche Gallagher, San Pedro, Calif.; and Mrs. W.E. Hill and Roy Dunlap, both of Grinnell. There is also one brother, Dr. Asbury Dunlap, of Des Moines, and two sisters, Mrs. John Miles, of Stockton, Kansas, and Mrs. Louisa Africa, of Goodell, Iowa, who were unable to be present at the funeral.

Services were held at the home on Spring street yesterday at 2:30, conducted by Rev. W.W. Woodburn. Mrs. Lydia Hutchison and Mrs. Woodburn sang. Interment was made in Hazelwood cemetery.
