OBITUARY

MRS. M.U. WATROUS

Mrs. M.U. Watrous, who will be remembered by many as one of the early settlers of Grinnell, passed on to eternal life, Friday evening, Nov. 23, at Pasadena, Cal., aged 94 years, 4 months and 7 days.

She was tenderly and loving cared for till the end by her only daughter, Mrs. J.M. Carson, with whom she had made her home for many years.

Th funeral services were held at the residence Sunday afternoon and were very impressive, a large number of the friends of "Grandma Watrous," as she was affectionately called, being present to pay their last tribute of love and respect. Many beautiful floral offerings were sent by friends.

Minerva U. Judd was born in Hamilton, Madison county, New York, July 16, 1812.

In 1836, at Bricksville, Ohio, she was married to O.B. Watrous, who preceded her to the better life twenty-two years ago. From this union there were two sons and one daughter, one son having passed away in early manhood. The other son lives at Ponca City, Okla. Besides this son and daughter Mrs. Watrous leaves ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one sister who lives at Lamar, Neb., this being the only one left of a family of ten. They emigrated to Iowa with their family in 1854. She and her husband were among the few who organized the Baptist church in Grinnell in 1858, she being the last of the charter members.
