WESLEY HOWE WOOMER

Sincerely mourned by all his friends and associates, the body of Wesley Howe Woomer, who died suddenly last Monday evening, was borne to its last resting place in Hazelwood cemetery yesterday afternoon. A delegation of eighty men from the Spaulding Manufacturing Company attested the high esteem in which Mr. Woomer was held by the men among whom he worked and lived his everyday life.

The funeral services at the house were conducted by Rev. J.M. Brown, pastor of the Methodist church and the Masonic lodge, of which Mr. Woomer was a faithful member, had charge of the services at the grave. The pallbearers were C.B. Kurtz, George L. Brown, E.L. Penfield, A.J. Neely, H.R. Dean and L.B. Godby.

Rev. Mr. Brown read the following statement regarding the life of the deceased:

Wesley Howe Woomer was born in Blair county, Pennsylvania, September 24, 1845, and died at his home in Grinnell July 28, 1913. In 1854 he moved with his parents to Davenport, where he grew to manhood. He was married to Katherine Costlow in 1867. Two years later they moved to Poweshiek county, where he spent the remaining years of his life. Three daughters and one son born of this marriage remain, the mother having died in February of 1906 and one son in October of 1899.

The daughters are Mrs. F. Parker, and Mrs. C.H. Cratty, of Grinnell, and Mrs. A.V. Robinson, of Kellogg. The son, Charles Woomer, lives in Nebraska. There is also a sister, Miss Woomer, of Grinnell.

In 1910 Mr. Woomer was married to Etta Wentzell; who survives him.

Th past ten years of his life have been spent in the employ of the Spaulding Manufacturing Company.

Senator H.W. Spaulding spoke yesterday in the highest terms of Mr. Woomer as he had known him during his faithful service of 10 years. "He was the sort of man in whom one has confidence," said Senator Spaulding. "When he had a job to do he meant to do it right and he did his best to do it right. He never shirked his work. He was absolutely dependable and entirely trustworthy. He was the best type of a man and we are sorry to lose him, both as a friend and a competent, able employe."
