MARY SCHULTZ SERVICES HELD

Mrs. Mary L. Schultz, 86, of 1427 Prince St., died Thursday morning (Jan. 20) at University Hospitals in Iowa city, where she had been a patient the past three weeks.

The daughter of Chris and Maria Larson, she was born in Hurring Denmark, Nov. 7, 1885. She was married to Jens Anderson in Denmark and, when she was 18, the couple came to America to make their home. They farmed in Rock Creek Township of Jasper County and were well established when her husband died in 1917. Later she married August Schultz, and they also farmed in the Rock Creek area until he died in 1942.

In 1944 Mrs. Schultz came to Grinnell to make her home. She worked at the Grinnell Shoe Factory until she was 60 years old and the factory was closed.

Mrs. Schultz was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended St. John's Lutheran Church here. She was a member of the Women's Guild at the church.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Elsie Palmer of Grinnell, with whom she had made her home in recent months; six grandchildren, Charles D. Anderson of Ankeny, Mrs. James (Beverly) Huston of Des Moines, Robert Palmer of Andalusia, Ill., Mrs. Kenneth (Elaine) Baber of Hartford, Iowa, Duane Palmer of Kellogg and Mrs. Gary (Penny) Fogelson of Des Moines; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; and two sisters, Mrs. John (Minnie) Waldbusser of Grinnell and Mrs. Tina Christianson of Denmark. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Charles Anderson; one grandson, Michael Palmer; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Christ and Karl Larson; and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Christianson and Mrs. Lora Christianson.

Funeral services for Mrs. Schultz were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Marcus E. Reitz, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church officiating. Organist was Mrs. Marvin Amo. Pallbearers were Bill Burk, Bill Campbell, Virgil Doud, Paul Elliott, Albert Deppe and Glen Phipps. Flower bearers were Mrs. Bill Burk, Mrs. Bill Campbell and Mrs. Don Sowerwine.

Burial was in Rock Creek Cemetery.
