JOSEPH F. EISELE REACHES LIFE'S END

One of Poweshiek County's Useful And Influential Citizens Is Summoned.

LEADER IN POLITICAL, PATRIOTIC AND IN CIVIC CIRCLES

Many Friends Paid Reverent Tribute At Funeral Services Monday.

The death of Joseph F. Eisele which occurred Saturday takes from Poweshiek county a man who has been actively identified, not only with its farming interests, but with its political, civic, fraternal and business interests for a long period of years. Mr. Eisele has long been recognized as a man of sterling integrity, a friend worth having and as a leader in political, patriotic and civic circles.

J.F. Eisele was born in Bureau county, Illinois, about five miles north of Princeton, on the 19th of August, 1857, a son of Andrew and Philippina (Wentzel) Eisele, and passed away at his home on Friday evening, Nov. 5, 1926, at the age of 69 years, 2 months and 16 days.

In October, 1868, he came to Poweshiek county, Iowa, with his parents, settling on a farm in Malcom township about one mile north of his late home.

He spent his youth upon his father's farm and there became familiar with the tasks that usually befall a county lad, but his lot was not an easy one. He, being the eldest of a large family, it befell him to help make a home and the living.

His education in books was limited but he early manifested the spirit of progress and enterprise which later proved a resultant force in his successful business career.

Ambition told him the story of what might be accomplished and his persistency of purpose never faltered until the goal was reached.

He remained with his parents until 26 years of age when he began farming for himself.

For one year he farmed the home place independently and then moved to the P.P. Raymond farm which he operated as a renter for twenty-three years and then acquired by purchase.

A few years previous to this he purchased his home farm and these were operated as one farm and still are by his son.

Mr. Eisele was early actively identified with the Democratic party. He was recognized as one of its leaders, always present at conventions in the days when politics were warm in this section of the state and always honest and truthful in his efforts to promote the cause of his party as well as the cause of good government.

During the world war Mr. Eisele was one of the most active of Poweshiek County's patriots. He was an earnest worker in patriotic activities, a member of the Council of Defense and if we remember right, at one time its chairman, but recognized always as an honest worker of intelligence and thorough activity.

In 1904 Mr. Eisele was the candidate of his party for Representative in this county and ran many votes ahead of his ticket, but of course the large Republican majority here prevented his election.

He was instrumental in the organization of the Malcom Savings bank and was chosen as its president which position he filled until two years ago.

Mr. Eisele was married on the 22nd of May, 1883, to Miss Frances Schultz, daughter of Henry and Mary (Rehberg) Schultz.

To this union three children were born, two daughters, Mrs. Viola Lamb, and Mrs. Josephine Schneckloth, both of Malcom, and one son, Grover F., who farms the home place and was his father's constant companion. He was a most loyal and loving husband and father.

He was reared in the faith of the Baptist church and was baptized and confirmed at Center Prairie church, six miles northwest of Princeton, by Reverend Mr. Bullis, in the winter of 1868.

He was a man of highest Christian character, loved and respected by all who came in contact with him.

He was ever honest and upright, strong in his convictions, loyal in friendship, kind hearted, generous and charitable almost to a fault.

He held memership in Lily Lodge 254, A.F. & A.M., Hysop Chapter No. 50, R.A.M., O.E.S. No. 477, all of Malcom, and was one of the first members of St. Andrews Commandery K.T., of this city, also a member of Grinnell Lodge No. 1266 B.P.O.E.

He leaves to mourn his loss besides his immediate family, three grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Gust. Schultz and Mrs. Fred Schultz, of Malcom. One sister, Mrs. Geo. Baustian, having preceded him in death. Three brothers, Charles, of Malcom, Wm. J. of Earlham, and J.P., of Tryon, Norht Carolina, and a whole host of friends.

The world is the better for his having been here, for he proved that success and an honored name may be gained simultaneously.

Services at the house were conducted by Rev. E.W.F. Holler, of Brooklyn, with the assistance of Rev. Mr. Burdock, of Malcom, and at the grave were conducted by Masonic brethren with Prof. Gannaway, a personal friend of Mr. Eisele, as speaker.

Two solos were beautifully rendered by Mrs. E.B.T. Spencer.

Pall bearers were Chris, John, Otto and Fred C. Schultz, W.J. Eisele and Henry Baltisberger.

Those from a distance attending the funeral were: A. Gilmore, Chicago, Ill.; C.L. Kaye and wife, St. Paul, Minn.; James Allen, South St. Paul, Minn.; Wm. Eisele, Earlham, Iowa; J.P. Eisele, Avon Park, Florida; Mrs. John Becker, Princeton, Ill.; Mrs. Minnie Fisher, Princeton, Ill.; Mrs. Gust.
