HE HELPED TO BUILD COUNTY

Charles Eisele Exerted a Wide And Helpful Influence For Good.

HAD LIVED IN POWESHIEK FOR ALMOST SIXTY YEARS.

Funeral Services Were Held Christmas Day From Presbyterian Church In Malcom.

Charles Eisele was born in Bureau County near Princeton, Ill., on the twenty-seventh day of February, 1859. He was a son of Andrew and Philippina (Wentzel) Eisele and passed away at his home in Malcom on Wednesday afternoon, Decemer 22, 1926, at the age of sixty-seven years, nine months and twenty-five days.

In October, 1868, when he was nine years of age he came with his parents to Poweshiek County, settling on a farm in Malcom Township 3 1/2 miles north-west of Malcom. His edcuation, which had been started in his native state, was completed in the schools of Malcom Township. His education in books was limited, but under the wise guidance of his parents he learned in his early life the habits of industry, perseverance and thrift. With these as a background he had an understanding for the practical affairs of life which has made possible his enviable business career.

He remained at home until the time of his marriage, when he entered the business world on his own account, purchasing from his father one hundred and twenty acres of land. He remained on the same place as owner and manager for thirty-five years. That his knowledge of agricultural pursuits was thorough and comprehensive is indicated by the fact that from time to time he acquired other farms. In September 1916 he with Mrs. Eisele moved to their new home in Malcom, where he resided until death.

On the fifteenth of March, 1881, Mr. Eisele was united in marriage to Miss Frances Schroeder, daughter of Gust and Mary (Rehberg) Schroeder. To this union five children were born: one daughter, Mrs. Mary Spading of Malcom, and four sons, George J. and Harry H. of Malcom, Eli CHarles of Charles City and Frank Andrew who preceded his father to the great beyond.

He was born of a Christian family and he himself was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church of Malcom April 6th, 1879 by The Reverend Mr. Meyer. He was a man of the highest Christian principles, loved and respected by all who knew him.

He stood as a splendid example of the strength of honorable manhood, of sincere honesty and loyal friendship.

He leaves to mourn his loss, besides his immmediate family, six grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Gust. Schultz and Mrs. Fred Schultz of Malcom. One sister, Mrs. George Baustian, preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death recently by his oldest brother, the late J.F. Eisele, who was his closest companion. There are still two brothers Wm. J. of Earlham and J.P., Avon Park, Florida and a host of friends.

" A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled.
A place is vacant in our home,
which never can be filled.

God in His wisdom has recalled,
The boon His love had given;
And though the body slumbers here,
The soul is safe in heaven."

Funeral services were held on the afternoon of Christmas Day at 2 o'clock from the Presbyterian church in Malcom, conducted by Rev. Mr. Aukerman assisted by Rev. Mr. Burdock. The church was filled by the many relatives and friends who had gathered to pay the last tribute to a friend and dear one. The large number of beautiful floral tributes attested the general sympathy for the sorrowing family. Mrs. Hugh McClure and Mrs. Henry Wichman sang very beautifully three duets: "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," "Shall We Gather at the River" and "Going Down the Valley, One by One." Pallbearers were Ernest Spading, a son-in-law, the three sons, George J. Eisele, Harry H. Eisele, Eli Charles Eisele, a nephew, Grover F. Eisele and Ralph Wentzel, a cousin. Burial was in Malcom cemetery.
