MRS. MARIE MARTINSON

Marie Enerson was born Sept. 20, 1864 in Oslo, Norway and passed away in a local hospital June 11, 1956. She received her early schooling in Norway, coming to America at the age of 16, in 1880.

On June 2, 1890 she was united in marriage with Gunder Martinson at Champion, Michigan. She is survived by her husband, two sons, Albert of Newton, George of Iowa City; four daughters, Martha of Grinnell, Edna (Mrs. J.F.) Pelisek of Tama, Irene (Mrs. W.E.) Dixon of Marshalltown, and Helen (Mrs. C.) Schultz of Sheridan Township. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and four sisters, Mrs. Anna Figland, Mrs. Clara Bentz, Mrs. Ellen Olson, and Mrs. Laura Ringo. A daughter Mabel preceded her in death in 1918.

Mrs. Martinson had been a continuous member of the First Congregational Church since April 1887. At the time of her death, she was the oldest living member of the church. She has always been devoted to her family, home and friends. In her earlier years she was active in the women's work of the church. In recent years with her advancing age she was more and more confined to her home where she found great enjoyment in television and in the company of family and friends.

Funeral Services were held at the Smith Funeral Home, Wednesday afternoon, June 13, at 2:00 o'clock with the Reverend Leland W. Mann, Minister of the First Congregational church officiating. Flower bearers were Mrs. Wayne Reams, Mrs. Arthur A. Robison and Mrs. Ella B. Craven. Pall bearers were six of her grandsons, Robert Martinson, Gene Martinson, Joe Martinson, Henry Schultz, Robert Dixon and William Dixon. Burial was in Hazelwood cemetery, Grinnell, Iowa.
