AN OBITUARY OF CHRISTIAN ENERSON

Funeral services for Christian Enerson, long time resident of the Grinnell community, were conduced from the Lutheran church Monday afteroon by Rev. E.M. Vittum. Mrs. Roscoe Demptser and Mrs. A.B. Cadwell sang two selections and Dr. Vittum brought a message of hope and consolation to the assembled relatives and friends. Pall bearers were John Newton, Henry Erickson, E.M Hillman, Peter Cramer, Charles Neister and Jesse Hamor. Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery.

Mr. Enerson was born May 15, 1862, in Norway. His mother died when he was four years old and at the age of ten he came to this country with his father, locating on a farm seven miles southeast of town. On this farm he grew to manhood and secured his education in the county schools.

December 15, 1889, Mr. Enerson was married in Grinnell to Winnie Mitchell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Mitchell, also early residents of the county. Mr. and Mrs. Enerson lived in Grinnell for a few months and in March of 1890 they moved to a farm in Sioux county which they bought of Joel Stewart. Here they made their home until the death of Mrs. Enerson in 1903. In 1904 Mr. Enerson came back to Poweshiek county and made his home for a number of years on a farm southeast of town. A few years later he sold the farm in Sioux county and bought the Pierce place three miles southeast of Grinnell which was his home until he died. In 1904 he married Mrs. Bertha Johnson, who survives him.

Mr. Enerson was able to be in Marshalltown the Wednesday before he died but Wednesday night he was taken sick and on Friday evening he underwent an operation. He failed to rally and passed away at 11 o'clock Saturday night.

Mr. Enerson is survived also by his daughter, Mrs. Lewis Buchenau, seven sisters, Mrs. O.B. Christianson, Mrs. Gunder Martinson, Mrs. C.O. Figland, Mrs. John Olson, Mrs. Thomas McKeag, of Manchester, Mrs. Clara Gibson of Portland, Oregon, and Mrs. Andrew Ringgo, in Texas, and three grand children, Stewart, Flora and LaVerne Buchenau. There are also many nieces and nephews and hosts of friends. Mrs. McKeag and daughter were here for the funeral.
