PHILLIE BAUSTIAN DIES SATURDAY; SERVICES TODAY

Mrs. Phillie M. Baustian, 88, of 1603 Ninth Avenue, died Saturday morning at a local hospital shortly after admission.

Funeral services were held this afternoon (Monday) from the James-Schalinske Funeral Home with the Rev. Laverne Streich, former pastor of St. John's Lutheran church, officiating. Organ music was provided by Mrs. Kathleen Heffner.

Serving as pallbearers were Sherley Eichhorn, Raymond Vogt, Wayne Gropper, Keith Downey, Paul Vogt and Glen Vogt. Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery.

The daughter of Christian F. and Elizabeth Wentzel Schultz, she was born on a farm in Sheridan Township on Feb. 24th, 1877. She received her education in the rural Sheridan schools and was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran church.

On March 6th, 1894, she was united in marriage with Joseph W. Baustian at her parents' home near Grinnell. Two sons were born to this union, Delmar Roy, who died in March of 1941, and Lester Louis, who died in December of 1933.

They farmed in the Sheridan community following their marriage and in 1920 moved to the farm three miles east of Grinnell where they farmed until the death of Mr. Baustian in February of 1926. For the past 10 years she had lived in Grinnell and made her home with her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Mary Baustian.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran church and the Women of the Church.

Mrs. Baustian is survived by her brother, Andrew Schultz of Albuquerque, N.M.; seven grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, four brothers and one sister.
