GOOD MAN IS GONE

Christian Frederick Schultz Passed Away Tuesday Evening at His Home.

WAS PIONEER RESIDENT OF MALCOM TOWNSHIP

Came to This County at Once After Coming to the United States in 1856.

Christian Frederick Schultz was born in Germany, August 28, 1842. He came to American in 1856 and settled at once on a farm in Poweshiek county. He was married to Elizabeth Wenzel* in 1872 and resided in Malcom Township until five years ago when the family moved to Grinnell. Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Schultz of whom six are living, Phillie Baustian, Ida, Joe, Andrew, Edward and George. There are also eight grandchildren. A brother, August Schroeder and a sister, Frances Eisele, survive him.

Mr. Schultz was a pioneer member of the Trinity Lutheran church in Malcom. He was a man of worthy Christian character, upright in his dealings, industrious and faithful in every relation. He was kindly in disposition and uncomplaining under all circumstances.

For more than a year, Mr. Schultz has been failing in health. He has been given all the care that medical skill and the unfailing devotion of his wife and children could provide. He passed away at five-thirty in the afternoon, Tuesday, February twenty-first, at the age of seventy-nine years, five months and six days. Had Mr. Schultz lived a few months longer, he and Mrs. Schultz would have celebrated their golden wedding.

The funeral service was conducted from the home, Thursday afternoon by the pastor of the family, Rev. Otto Biermann. Rev. E.W. Cross, who was a neighbor, offered prayer. The pall bearers were sons and grandsons of the deceased. The floral offerings and the number who were in attendance, indicated the esteem in which this worthy man was held.
