NYTA LEMKE

Nyta Lemke, 65, of Malcom died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services for Nyta Lemke were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Grinnell Christian Church, with the Rev. John Epperson officiating. Pallbearers included Walter Bond; Earl Davis; Arthur, Randy and Richard Ervin; Larry Hoch; and Bill and Earl Lemke. Burial was in Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom.

Born July 11, 1942, in Numa, Iowa, she was the daughter of John Earl and Edna Marietta Foran Ervin. She was raised in several communities prior to moving to Grinnell, where she attended high school.

On Sept. 7, 1959, she married Albert Lee Lemke in Montezuma. The couple made their home in Grinnell and later moved to Malcom. She worked in the home, raising her family. She was a member of the Grinnell Christian Church, where she was baptized; the Moose Lodge in Newton; and the Motorcycle Retreads.

She was devoted to her family and enjoyed sharing time with her grandchildren. She often said that family is the most important thing in the world. While her grandchildren were growing up and active in sports, she never missed a game. She was a loyal fan of the Montezuma Braves. She loved the outdoors, fishing, golfing and tending to her flower garden. She enjoyed collecting representations of angels and riding with her husband on their Gold Wing motorcycle.

She is survived by a daughter, Victoria Lemke, of Malcom; her mother, Edna Foran of Grinnell; two grandchildren; two sisters, Jeraldine Bond of Malcom and Mary Ervin of Grinnell; and two brothers, Richard "Red" Ervin and Arthur "Rusty" Ervin, both of Tama. She was preceded in death by her husband; her father; a sister, Eleanor "Sissy" Davis; and a brother, Earl Ervin.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Nyta Lemke Memorial Fund.
