BERTHA ALLEN

Funeral services were held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 at Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma for Bertha Allen. Rev. Warren James of Montezuma officiated.

Mrs. Verla Van Dee was organist and casket bearers were Wayne Ervin, Dennis Bond, Kenneth Wales, Roger Allen, Douglas Bond and Robinson. Interment was in Jackson Township Cemetery, Montezuma.

Bertha Allen, 80, daughter of Michael and Rachael Young Fayer, was born west of Montezuma, Iowa, on July 19, 1906 and died at Brookhaven Nursing Home in Brooklyn on Aug. 13, 1985.

She graduated from Montezuma High School and taught rural school for two years. On April 30, 1927 she was united in marriage with Orville Allen in Oskaloosa. To this union six children were born. They farmed near New Sharon for 30 years before moving to their farm southwest of Deep River, where she had lived for 27 years. She was a member of the Linger Longer Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, who died in 1965; two infant sons; one grandson; one brother, Eddie Fayer and one sister, Stella James.

Bertha is survived by two sons: Arlen of Deep River and Ronald of Montezuma; two daughters: Wilma Ervin of Ackworth and Myrna Bond of Milan, Ill.; 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
