OBITUARY OF SARAH HEACOCK

Sarah Elizabeth Heacock, daughter of John R. and Jemima Debord, was born Jan. 9th, 1852 in Hawkins Co., Tenn. and departed this life June 10, 1925, age 73 years, 5 months and 1 day.

In infancy she moved with her parents, in the fall of 1853, to a farm near Spiceland, Ind., where she grew to young womanhood and received her education at the Spiceland Academy. On September 8th, 1869, she was united in marriage to Alfred W. Heacock of Spiceland, Ind. To this union were born eleven children three of whom passed to the glory land in infancy. She was a loving and faithful wife and mother, ever ready to make any sacrifice for her dear ones. Her parents were devout Christians and she was early brought to Christ, at the age of 12 years, and ever held up her Saviour to her family, teaching them that the precious blood of Jesus cleanseth from all sin. She lived to see all her children brought to Christ; one son accepting the call of God to the ministry.

Mrs. Heacock was a firm believer in prayer and many times received direct answers as she lingered before the throne with none but her God to hear. She loved to read God's holy work and taught her children to abstain from strong drink, and took great interest in Missionary work, having many dear friends in the foreign field.

She, with her husband and family united with Friends at Sugar Creek, Iowa, in 1875; later all removed to Grinnell Friends Church. Her greatest sorrow came upon her when in 1911 and 1912 her husband and two eldest daughters and grand-daughter passed away in the space of 18 months, but God wonderfully sustained her in this terrible trial. Having passed through the fire of affliction she was able to say "Thy will be done." "Even though He slay me, yet will I trust Him."

There remain to mourn her death, six children,--John Heacock of Burley, Idaho; Mable Norman of Grinnell, Iowa; Ella Marshall, also of Grinnell; Lizzie Poots, of Lynnville, Iowa; Arthur Heacock of Ackworth, Iowa; and Ollivet W. Heacock of Sioux City; one sister, Mrs. John Knox of Unionville, Ind.; 36 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren, and host of friends.
