IONA I. HUDNUTT

Iona I. Hudnutt, 88, of Grinnell died Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at Mayflower Community Health Care Center.

A celebration of her life was held Saturday at Smith Funeral Home with Pastor John Epperson officiating.

She was born Oct. 25, 1922, on her family's farm near Montezuma, the daughter of Cecil and LaVina Shook Miller. She was raised near Montezuma, graduating from Searsboro High School in 1942.

She was united in marriage with Lyle (Mike) Hudnutt on May 31, 1943, in Wichita Falls, Texas. Her husband was an active member of the United States Army Air Corps during World War II, and they resided in several locations, after which they returned to Iowa, locating in Grinnell for the remainder of their lives.

She was employed as a receptionist and labor reporter at Farmhand for 21 years, retiring on Aug. 31, 1991.

She was a member of West Liberty Church of Christ, Grinnell Christian Church, Grinnell Lady Elks, Grinnell Eagles Auxiliary and Oakland Acres ladies' golf league.

She is survived by her daughter and sons, Judy Haslow of Escanaba, Mich., Michael Hudnutt of Grinnell and Randy Hudnutt of Studio City, Calif.; her foster sons, Denny and Fred Rook; eight grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and her brother and sister, Cletus Miller and Lois Douglass, both of Montezuma. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers, Forrest, Calvin and Marion Miller; and one sister, Virginia Miller, who died in infancy.
