OBITUARY; dated July 30, 1912

MARY D. HEACOCK MCDOWELL

Mary D. Heacock McDowell, daughter of Alfred W. and Sarah E. Heacock, was born in Poweshiek county, November 4, 1871, and departed this life July 25, 1912, aged 40 years, 9 months and 26 days. She was a member of the Friends church at Oak Grove, was converted at the age of 11 years, and lived a noble Christian life. She was a loving and dutiful daughter. All who knew her could tell of her true unfaltering love and devotion to her husband and children, no sacrifice being too great for her to make for them.

She was united in marriage with Wm. McDowell, Dec. 25, 1889. To this union were born eleven children, nine boys and two girls. All are living except an infant son and a daughter aged 15 years who passed away a few hours previous to the mother's death on the same day, one at 7 a.m., the other at 2 p.m.

Mrs. McDowell's was a beautiful Christian life. She was always found in her place with her children gathered around her. She carefully taught them by example, as well as by precept, the way of life and tho she was called to leave them so soon, she saw all who had arrived at the age of accountability brought to Jesus. She was also a member of the W.F.M.S., had held the important office of President and spent much time with the work. She was stricken with that dread disease, typhoid fever. In a few days it was apparent to all that she could not live. She called her husband to her, and expressed a wish that her dear children be kept together in the home except the baby of eight months. She wished her younger sister, Mrs. Ella Marsahll, who had already been caring for it, to keep it for the present.

She told her nurse she wished she could see the beautiful place she was going to as she saw it. She left unmistakable evidence that she was going to be with the redeemed of God.

Funeral services were held at Sugar Creek church conducted by Rev. Robert Lincoln, her pastor.

Farewell dear mother, sweet thy rest.
Weary with years and worn with pain.
Farewell, till in some happy place
We shall behold they face again.
