MRS. B.M. TALBOTT

Sarah Jane Ashton, daughter of Hatton and Hannah Ashton, was born in Clarksville, Penn., Sept. 22, 1847, and passed away in Los Angeles, California on the morning of Sept. 7, 1921 at the age of 73 years, 11 months and 15 days.

Her father died in July 1850 and her mother married again and in 1864 they moved to Brooklyn, living on a farm southeast of town where she was united in marriage to Basil M. Talbott, May 12, 1866.

Nine children came to bless this home, four being called by death in infancy. Mrs. Talbott leaves surviving, her husband, Basil M. Talbott, three sons, Albert B. and Charles D. Talbott of Los Angeles, California and Edwin H. Talbott of Brooklyn, Iowa. Two daughters, Effa E. Coon of Niles, Michigan and Lena E. Shifflett of Los Angeles. Four grandchildren, Faith G. Gordon, Basil and Laura Shifflet of Los Angeles, and George Talbott of Des Moines, Iowa. One great grandchild, Emmy Lou Gordon of Los Angeles, California, two brothers, William O. Powers of Brooklyn, Iowa, and Ralph U. Powers of Omaha, Nebraska.

Mrs. Talbott had long been a member of Grace M.E. church, having joined soon after her marriage. She was also a member of Deborah Rebekah Lodge of Brooklyn. She came to reside in Los Angeles, California in 1908.

The funeral services were held in the Methodist church at Brooklyn, Ia., Friday afternoon, Sept. 16th, conducted by Rev. John W. Pool. Rev. W.G. Thorne a former pastor preached the sermon. The body was laid to rest in the Brooklyn cemetery. The Rebekahs had charge of the service at the grave.--Brooklyn Chronicle.
