ASA TALBOTT RITES TUESDAY

Asa C. Talbott, 71, of 728 Summer St., died Friday, Dec. 24, at University Hospitals in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Burnett, assistant pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of Olin and Ermine Moudesta Gould Talbott, he was born Sept. 19, 1911, at Brooklyn. He attended Brooklyn schools.

On Sept. 8, 1932, he was married to Isla Anderson at Rock Island, Ill. Following their marriage, they lived in Grinnell. Mr. Talbott was employed by the former Talbott and Olds Coal & Feed Co. and the former United Food Store. He worked for 25 years for the Cargill Seed Co. here, retiring in 1975.

Mr. Talbott is survived by his wife; three children, James E. Talbott of Grinnell, Modesta Beason of Farmersville, Texas, and Mary Trease of Grinnell; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one great grandson; and a sister, Maye Mitchell of Grinnell.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
