JOHN CRAWFORD RITES FRIDAY

John P. Crawford, 77, of 1500 Davis Ave., Grinnell, died Monday afternoon at Grinnell General Hospital.

The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Harry Linnenbrink officiating. Organist will be Kathleen Heffner. Pallbearers will be Ben Crawford, Jerry Crawford, Joe Crawford, Peter Crawford and Russ Crawford. Honorary bearers will be Jim Crawford, John Crawford, Keyo Crawford and Rick Crawford. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery.

The Scripture Service is scheduled for 8 p.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home.

Th son of Hans and Rose Dorhn (Dohrn) Peterson, he was born on Oct. 12, 1902, at Clinton. He grew up in the Clinton area and attended school there. He later moved to Anthon.

On Feb. 11, 1925, he was married to Mary Nellie Burow at Sioux City. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Anthon area and later farmed near Malcom. Thye moved to Grinnell in 1932.

Mr. Crawford was employed by the Poweshiek county road department until retiring in 1969. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Survivors include his children, Donald J. Crawford, Richard P. Crawford and Clark W. Crawford, all of Grinnell, Phirman J. Crawford of Cleburne, Tex., and Mrs. Don (Esther) Henning of Kellogg; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. J.C. (Emily) Singer of Roswell, N.M. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and five grandchildren.
