BULLET KILLS BROOKLYN BOY

A 15-year-old rural Brooklyn youth was dead on arrival at Grinnell General Hospital Sunday evening after being shot accidentally at his farm home.

According to Poweshiek County Deputy Sheriff Wayne Callison, Jeffrey Nelson, son of the Fred Nelsons, was doing farm chores with a 15-year old companion when the fatal mishap occurred.

Callison said the two boys had been shooting at sparrows with a .22-caliber rifle. As they were walking back toward the house after finishing farm chores, the unidentified companion slipped, fell, and the gun went off, striking young Nelson in the heart.

The accident occurred at approximately 6 p.m.
