REV. HARRY H. LINNENBRINK

The Rev. Harry H. Linnenbrink, 78, of Hiawatha, formerly of Grinnell, a retired priest of the Diocese of Davenport, died Wednesday, June 17, 2009 in Hiawatha.

A rosary and wake service were held Friday, June 19, at SS. Mary and Joseph Church, Holy Family Parish, in Fort Madison. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, June 20, at the church with the Rev. Lou Leonhardt celebrating. Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery. A memorial has been established in his name.

He was born Aug. 11, 1930, in Fort Madison to Harry and Dorothy Richelt (Riechelt) Linnenbrink. He was a graduate of Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio, and was ordained there on May 25, 1957. He served at St. Mary's Church, Albia; St. Anthony's Church and Our Lady of Victory, Davenport; St. Patrick's Church and St. Wenceslaus Church, Iowa City; Sacred Heart Church, Kinross; St. Joseph's Church, Wellman, and St. Mary's Church, Grinnell. He was also Episcopal Vicar of Iowa City from 1987 to 1997.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Priests' Aid Society. He also was a licensed pilot and enjoyed motorcycle and snowmobile riding. In addition, he loved building grandfather clocks.

He is survived by his sister, Joan Work of Mediapolis and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, William and Albert, and his sisters, Mary and Generose.
