BESSIE W. CURTIS

Mrs. Bessie W. Curtis, born to John Mullins and Martha Jane Hammond at Marengo, Iowa, on April 28th, 1878, died February 23rd, 1956 in a Grinnell hospital.

She came to Grinnell as a child and in later life, March 1, 1894 united in marriage with Guy Curtis. Mr. Curtis preceded her in death in 1940.

Surviving are five daughters, Grace Woods of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Mabel Pickering of Grinnell, Doris Oliver of Grinnell, Lois Emmert of Denver, Colorado and Wilma Deck of Grinnell; two sons Paul of Grinnell and Raymond of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 20 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

The funeral services were conducted at the Smith Funeral Home on Saturday, February 25th with the Rev. E.E. Beattie, minister of the United Presbyterian church officiating.

Mrs. Maynard Long was the soloist at the service while Mrs. John W. Heffner accompanied on the organ.

Serving as pallbearers were: Harold Miller, John Hotchkin, Harold Lang, Will Oliver, Webb Wallace and Lee Mitchell.

Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery.
