MRS. MARTHA J. MULLINS PASSES

Martha J. Hammond was born June 17, 1849 in County Donegal Ireland and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Guy Curtis in Grinnell December 2nd, 1930 aged 81 years, 5 months and 15 days.

As a girl of thirteen she left the land of her nativity to seek a new home in the United States. The family emigrated to Iowa and for a period of fifty years the deceased was a resident of Grinnell.

Her first home was at Marengo where the family lived for several years and here in May 1871 she was married to John Mullins, who died in January 1894. Five children gladdened the hearts of these parents. One daughter Agnes died at the age of 16 years. The other children are Mr. W.R. Mullins, Mrs. Jesse Kline, Mrs. Bessie Curtis of Grinnell and Mrs. Edna Curtis of Toledo, Iowa. Numbered among her father's family are twenty-five grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Kate Harr of Minneapolis, Minn., Betty Hammond of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Mrs. Margaret Dunlap of Harvey, Illinois.

Mrs. Mullins was a highly respected member of the United Presbyterian Church. The members of that group will greatly miss the joy of her presence. The welfare of her family was her passion and to and for them she rendered a mother's sacrificial love. With an alert mind, without prolonged suffering her entrance on the eternal suggests to us the words uttered by a voice from heaven, "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord; even so saith the Spirit; for they rest from their labors."

The funeral services were held yesterday at 2:00 o'clock at the United Presbyterian church, with Rev. W.J. Stewart in charge. A quartet composed of Louis Ent, Wendell Lewis, Mrs. Howard Sage, and Mrs. George Trumble sang some of Mrs. Mullins' favorite selections.

Pall bearers were Herbert Hutchison, William Nelson, Ralph Mattingly, J.W. Mills, A.N. Hockett and T.H. McIlrath. Burial was in Hazelwood.
