RALPH GIANCOLA

Ralph A. Giancola, 80, of 1133 Prairie St., Grinnell, died Thursday, Oct. 15, at the Mayflower Health Care Center.

A graveside service was conducted Monday at Hazelwood Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Zirkelbach of Grace Community Church officiating. Casket bearers were Steve, Rick, Bryan, Scott and Jake Giancola; Ryan and Spencer Loucks; Ron Anderson; and Jeff Nevels. The Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He was the son of Nicholas and Pauline Berri Giancola and was born June 23, 1918, in St. Louis, Mo. He was raised there and attended Ben Blewett High School. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army Air Corps.

On March 12, 1935, he was married to Evelyn Hilda Carter at Waterloo, Ill. They lived in St. Louis where Mr. Giancola worked as a tailor. They moved to Grinnell in 1964, and he worked for DeLong Sportswear until 1975. For many years, he owned and operated Raphael's Tailor Shop in Grinnell.

Surviving are his children, Ralph of St. Charles, Mo., Nick of Minneapolis, Minn., Linda Mega of Murietta, Calif., Dennis of Des Moines and Laura Loucks of Newton; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Walter, Edward, Richard and Ronnie, all of St. Louis, and Robert of Owensville, Mo.; and three sisters, Norma Wilbrand, Judy Fortune and Mary Ann Giancola, all of St. Louis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one son, Richard.
