FRED SCRUBY SERVICES HELD MONDAY

Funeral rites for a well known retired farmer, Fred Scruby, were held Monday afternoon, February 10, at the Steffy Funeral Home. The Rev. Martin Gruneich officiated.

Music at the service was provided by soloist George Wilkening, accompanied by Miss Alice Underwood, organist.

Casket bearers were Lyle Wiley, Russell Wiley, Everett Johnston, Edwin Bryan, Richard Beyer and Marion Palmer. Interment was at Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom.

Mr. Scruby, 75, passed away at the Goeke Nursing Home on Saturday evening, February 8, where he had been a patient for several weeks.

The son of Elizabeth and James Scruby, he was born near Brooklyn, Iowa, on Oct. 25, 1893. He attended rural school and assisted with the farm work at home during his youth.

On June 5, 1918, he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Wiley. To this union two children were born. Their son died in infancy. They made their home on farms in Poweshiek County, with the exception of four and one-half years which they spent in Texas.

About ten years ago Mr. Scruby's health began to fail and they retired and moved to Montezuma to be near their daughter and her family.

He is survived by his wife; their daughter, Lorna Bryan and her husband, Frank; one granddaughter, Sharon Bryan and her fiance, George Wilkening.
