OBITUARY

MRS. MELBA IRENE MITCHELL

Melba Irene Hull, daughter of Harold L. and Marie Palmer Hull, was born near Taintor, on April 16, 1918 and passed away in a local hospital in Grinnell April 5, 1953, at the age of 34 years, 11 months and 21 days.

She was united in marriage with Raymond A. Mitchell, her childhood sweetheart on May 18, 1944. No children were born to this union.

Melba has spent her entire life in the Taintor, New Sharon, Grinnell, and Malcom communities. The old Granville school near Taintor was where she attended her eight grades and was also the same school her grandfather attended in earlier days. Her first three years of High School were at New Sharon. In 1935 with her parents, she moved to their home southeast of Grinnell and graduated, with the class of 1936. After graduation she worked in junior high principal's office, later teaching eight years in rural schools at Oak Grove, Westfield and Malcom No. 9.

After her marriage, she and her husband lived east of New Sharon, then moved to a farm south of Grinnell. In 1950 they purchased their present home, three miles southwest of Malcom. She loved her home and enjoyed every minute in it.

The past several years her heart began to fail from a serious heart condition. She made her own plans to go to Rochester for the heart operation. Her recent illness the past weeks prevented her from doing so but she was always hopeful and smiling each day, thinking she would soon be able to go.

Melba was always kind and thinking of others. She loved children and her four little nephews and two nieces were always loved dearly by her.

She was a member of the Pleasant township Farm Bureau, The Jolly Bunch club, and the Harmony Ladies Aid and was a member of the Grant No. 7 Union Sunday school which several years ago was a very active and large country Sunday school.

Those who survive her are her beloved husband Raymond, parental grandfather, J.D. Hull, parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hull and one brother, Donald Hull and family, a very large number of close relatives and hosts of friends.
