WM. H. SMITH DIES FRIDAY AT CARTER HOME NEAR TOWN

Had Been A resident of Poweshiek County For The Past 62 Years

Wm. H. Smith died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ed Carter, last Friday. He was buried at Hartwick Sunday afternoon, services at the grave being conducted by the Rev. B.W. Northrop, pastor of the Congregational church of Hartwick. Rev. E.W.F. Holler conducted the house services which were held east of town at the home of Mrs. Carter.

Wm. H. Smith, son of Samuel and Nancy Smith, was born in Racine Co. Wisconsin, September 6, 1846, and died December 21, age 82 years, 3 months and 15 days. When he was a child his parents moved to Lyons, Iowa, and there he spent his early boyhood days.

At the age of 21 he came in a covered wagon to Poweshiek county, where for the last 62 years he has been a resident.

On August 21, 1875, he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Lear who preceded him in death.
