FUNERAL SERVICES HERE FRIDAY FOR JOSEPH COOPER, 81

Joe Cooper, 81, of 633 Main St., Grinnell, died Wednesday morning at a Montezuma nursing home. He had been in failing health for some time.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday from the Assembly of God church with the pastor, the Rev. Donald Rich, officiating. Vocal music will be provided by Rev. and Mrs. Rich, accompanied by Mrs. Ruth Wilson at the organ.

Serving as pallbearers will be John McIlrath, James Fuller, Herbert Wyss, Eldon Gerard, William Belcher, and Ralph Allen. Interment will be in Hazelwood cemetery.

Born May 22nd, 1882, at Mt. Pisgah, Ky., he was the son of Harmon and Martha Pyles Cooper. He attended the schools of Mt. Pisgah and on May 12th, 1899, was united in marriage with Polly Ann Burnett at Chanute, Tenn.

To this union were born six children: Guy Cooper and Mrs. Flonnie Bell, both of Grinnell; LeRoy Wendell Cooper, who died Dec. 16th, 1963; Mrs. Dorothy Herwehe of Knoxville; Mrs. Paul (Marie) Middleton of Orlando, Fla.; and a baby that died in infancy.

In addition to his son and three daughters, he is survived by his wife, Polly, at the home; one brother and one sister, Silas Cooper and Mrs. Rosa Dobbs, both of Mt. Pisgah; 24 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two children, and several brothers and sisters.

Most of his life he was employed as a blacksmith and farmer. After living in Mt. Pisgah, he moved to Cameron, Mo., and then to Kellogg, Iowa. From Kellogg, he moved to Grinnell.

He was a member of the Grinnell Assembly of God church.
