FLONNIE BELL

Flonnie Ethel Bell, 85, of Grinnell died of a heart attack Sunday, Oct. 21, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. A. Cliff Bevins, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Organist was Kathleen Wellborn. Pallbearers were James, Norman and Tracy Bell, Harold Brown, Donovan Evans, Lyle Wiley and David Wyss.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The daughter of Joseph and Polly Ann Burnett Cooper, she was born Oct. 3, 1905, near Mt. Pisgah, Ky., later moving with her family to Missouri. The family moved to Iowa, then returned to Missouri where she attended Hamilton schools. The family again moved to Iowa where she graduated from Monroe High School in 1924.

She was married to Glen V. Bell Dec. 24, 1924, at Monroe. The couple farmed for five years in the Monroe area before moving to Grinnell in 1929. Mr. Bell, a former Grinnell police chief, died in August *1959.

Mrs. Bell was a member of the Grinnell First Baptist Church, the Brande Bible Class, the Westfield Ladies Aid, the Rest and Recreation Club and, formerly, the American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving are six children, Dorothy Bruening of Vista, Calif., Glen of Grinnell, Kenneth of Anaheim, Calif., Richard of Brier, Wash., Margaret Stone of West Des Moines and Joseph of Phoenix, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandhchildren; several step-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Herwehe of Knoxville and Marie Middleton of Clearwater, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Edith Harness; two grandchildren; and two brothers, Guy and LeRoy Cooper.
