MRS. RUTH CURTIS MATTINGLY PASSES

Mrs. Ruth Curtis Mattingly of Grinnell, Iowa, passed away Wednesday morning at 4:30 o'clock at her home on Prairie St. She has suffered for the past three years of heart trouble and the end came suddenly.

Ruth Marie Curtis was born August 27th, 1895 and departed this life October 29, 1924. Her entire life has been spent in Grinnell. Here she attended school and high school, graduating in the class of '14. In 1916 she was married to Ralph Mattingly. They were very devoted to each other.

For many years the deceased has been in poor health. She bore it patiently with true Christian fortitude. Everything that loving hands could do was done for her. At times death seemed near and then she would rally and hopes were entertained for her recovery. Last Sabbath morning she was at the church service. It was a happy day for her, surrounded by so many of her loved ones. Early Wednesday morning after a night of severe suffering she fell asleep in Jesus.

When very young, Ruth united with the Presbyterian Church and during the intervening time has been a devoted member. She was a remarkable character. She was spiritually minded from a child and in later years, this ripened into the saintly character that was so evident to all who associated with her. Her home and her church were the two places where she loved to dwell. If the worldly life ever had any attractions for her they were never in evidence. For her to live was Christ. The sweet fellowship with her Saviour was her delight. What must be her joy to be in His presence.

Besides her husband and many friends, she is survived by her father and mother Mr. and Mrs. G.H. Curtis, and her brothers and sisters, Mable, Doris, Lois, Paul and Raymond and Mrs. Grace Woods of Clinton, Iowa, Fay of Chicago, Illinois and Mrs. Wilma Deck of Grinnell.

Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the United Presbyterian church conducted by Rev. W.W. Woodburn. Interment was at the Hazelwood cemetery.

Mrs. Mattingly was one of the prominent workers in the church and a loyal and sincere friend to all. Her death brings a great loss to the church and to her many friends.
