RAYMOND CARLSON

Raymond E. Carlson, 92, of 620 State St., Grinnell, died Thursday, Oct. 31, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tim Stewart, pastor of the church, and the Rev. Robert Smith of Knoxville officiating. Organist was Denise Baustian, and casket bearers were Bill Gerard, Norman Hall, Jerry McGinnis, Howard Raffety, Jim White and Donovan Evans.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions in Mr. Carlson's name may be made to the First Baptist Church.

He was born Feb. 13, 1904, in Rock Creek Township, Jasper County, and was the son of Carl and Lillie Seigler Carlson. He was raised in rural Jasper county and later lived in Wyoming. He returned to Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1923.

He was married to Ethel Cisco Aug. 9, 1933. The couple lived in Lima, Ohio, and he worked for the Westinghouse Co., retiring in 1969 and moving to Grinnell.

He was married to Elsie Deppe July 3, 1968, and the couple lived in Grinnell. She died in March 1982. On June 15, 1984, he was married to Ruby Prince.

Mr. Carlson was a member of the First Baptist Church and the International Association of Machinists Local 366.

Survivors include his sister, May Meeker of Fort Collins, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents; his three wives; one brother, Fred; and one sister, Alice Carlson.
