ELSIE LETHA CARTER RIGGS

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, Jan. 12, at Hamilton's Funeral Home in Des Moines for Elsie Letha *Carter Riggs, 84, of Des Moines, who died of heart failure Jan. 8, 1999, at The Abbey in Des Moines. Graveside services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery.

Born at Brooklyn, the daughter of Alice and Alfred Weaver Bolen, Elsie lived most of her life in Brooklyn, where she cooked in many area restaurants. Since 1985 she has lived in Des Moines. She married Jim Riggs in July 1988.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Thelma Ryan; two grandchildren, LuAnn Bacon and Carl Amos Kilmer; and a sister, Mildred Besick.

Survivors include her husband, Jim Riggs of Des Moines; a daughter Dona Frank, of Las Vegas, Nev.; two stepsons, Thomas Riggs of Norwalk and Jim Riggs of Gainesville, Va.; a stepdaughter, Ruth Strecker of Florissant, Mo.; three sisters, Gertrude Horvat of Cedar Rapids, Darlene Hiner of Springville and Maxine Mohr of Brooklyn; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. Hamilton's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
