RUBY CARLSON

Ruby Prince Carlson, 65, of 620 State St., Grinnell, died Thursday, Feb. 27, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were conducted Monday morning at the First Baptist Church in Grinnell, with the Rev. Cliff Bevins, pastor of the church, and the Rev. Robert C. Smith, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Knoxville, officiating. Organist was James Severe.

Pallbearers were Jeff Martin, Jerry and Scott McGinnis, Pat Smith, and Jim and Pat White. Honorary bearers were Van Davis Jr., Bill Gerard, Jim Miller, Kyle Miller and Gary Smith.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The daughter of Fredrick and Viosa Pickering Smith, she was born Jan. 2, 1927, on a farm north of Grinnell. She attended rural school.

On Sept. 15, 1945, she was married to Carl Prince in Newton. The couple lived in Grinnell where she worked in the housekeeping department at Grinnell General Hospital. Mr. Prince died in 1982.

She later was married to Raymond Carlson in Grinnell.

Surviving are her husband; one daughter, Marie Martin of Iowa City; one son, Fred Prince of Grinnell; one granddaughter; and one sister, Hannah Ryan of Leon. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; one sister, Lorena Triplett; and one brother, Carl Smith.

CORRECTION

The obituary or Ruby Carlson, which appeared in the March 2, edition of The Herald-Register, reported her cause of death as cancer. Mrs. Carlson's daughter, Marie Martin, said the cause actually was complications from burns she received at her home.
