JOHN FUERST SERVICES HELD

John Fuerst, 82, of Rte. 2, Malcom, died Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 27, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gerald F. Brown, pastor of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Malcom, officiating. Organist was Edward Bohstedt. Pallbearers were Paul Bacon, Ronald DeBondt, Eugene Gritsch, Leo Kelm, Donald Souter and James Wisecarver. Honorary bearers were Pat Cadden, Conrad DeBondt, Earl Engelbarts, Louis Ford, Harvey Jensen and William Nagel. Flower bearers were Mildred Bacon and Shirley DeBondt.

Burial was at the Ivy Hill Cemetery at Malcom. Memorials in Mr. Fuerst's name may be made to the Malcom Trinity Lutheran Church and left at the funeral home.

The son of Matthias and Margaretha Thiessen Fuerst, he was born Dec. 20, 1899, at Norderstapel, Schleswig-Holstein, West Germany. He attended school near his family home and in 1925 came to the U.S.

He began his farming career with the Lester Baltisberger family near Malcom. On Jan. 23, 1932, he was married to Ora May Burch at Rock Island, Ill. The couple farmed in the Malcom and Pleasant Township areas and for the past 38 years lived in Pleasant Township.

Mr. Fuerst was a member of the Grinnell B.P.O.E Elks Lodge No. 1266, the Poweshiek County Farm Buerau and the Trinity Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ora, and a brother, August Fuerst of Bargen, West Germany. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters, Peter, Matthias, Hans and William Fuerst, Tina Voss, Margreta Meding and Magdelene Diedrichsen.
